Golf Cart Voltage Chart

Use these reference charts to interpret multimeter readings on your golf cart battery pack. The numbers vary by battery chemistry (lead-acid/AGM vs. lithium) and state of charge. For instructions on how to take these readings, see our battery testing guide.

Lithium (LiFePO₄) Voltage Chart

Lithium packs behave differently from lead-acid. Their resting voltage stays nearly flat across most of the usable range — you won't see much difference between 50% and 80% charge when the cart is at rest. The BMS (Battery Management System) handles the actual charge level tracking.

SystemFully Charged (by charger)Resting (nominal)Discharged (BMS cutoff)
48V lithium54.6V (16S pack) or 58.4V (16S LFP)~51.2V nominal~40–44V
72V lithium~84V (24S NMC) or ~76.8V (24S LFP)~72V nominal~60–66V

Note: Lithium packs labeled "48V" often charge to 54–58V and rest at ~51V. This is normal — the nominal 48V rating follows lead-acid convention. Our nominal vs. actual voltage guide explains this in detail.

How to Read Voltage Accurately

For accurate readings:

  • Resting voltage: Wait 1–2 hours after charging or discharging before measuring. Active chemical reactions create false readings.
  • Fully charged reading: Take immediately after the charger finishes and the cart has rested for 30 minutes.
  • Under-load reading: Have an assistant press the accelerator while you probe — or use a clamp meter for safety.
  • If your pack reads significantly below the "discharged" thresholds above, your batteries may have one or more failing cells. Bring the cart to any TIGON Golf Carts location for a free battery load test, or call 1-844-844-6638.
