Golf Carts in Vermont: Your Complete Guide
Vermont's natural beauty, charming communities, and golf courses make it a wonderful place for golf cart ownership — even if the seasons are shorter than in southern states. TIGON Golf Carts ships golf carts nationwide, including Vermont, and our team can help you find the right cart for Green Mountain State conditions.
Vermont Golf Cart Laws
Vermont law allows golf carts and LSVs on public roads under state vehicle statutes:
- LSVs must be registered with Vermont DMV
- Required: title, registration, liability insurance
- All federal NEV/LSV safety equipment required
- Maximum speed: 25 mph on authorized roads
Golf carts on private property, resorts, and golf courses do not require state registration.
Vermont Golf Cart Communities
Franklin County / Lake Champlain Region: Swanton, St. Albans, Georgia, and surrounding Lake Champlain communities have growing golf cart adoption. The lake shore communities are particularly popular for seasonal cart use.
Stowe (Lamoille County): The Stowe resort community uses golf carts extensively at the resort and in surrounding neighborhoods during the warmer months.
Burlington / Chittenden County: Vermont's largest city and its suburbs have golf clubs and communities with active cart use.
Southern Vermont / Manchester / Bromley area: Golf courses and resort communities in Windham and Bennington counties.
Seasonal Considerations for Vermont Carts
Vermont's golf cart season typically runs April through October. Key considerations:
- Lithium batteries are strongly recommended for Vermont — they perform significantly better in cold weather than lead-acid batteries
- Cart storage during winter should be in a heated or insulated space
- Spring startup should include a full battery check and tire inspection
