Yamaha Golf Cart Voltage: Which Model Uses What?
Yamaha has manufactured electric golf carts in both 36V and 48V configurations, with 48V becoming standard in their modern lineup. Here's a complete reference.
Yamaha Voltage by Model and Year
| Model | Year Range | Voltage | Config |
|---|---|---|---|
| G2, G9, G11 (Electric) | 1985–1995 | 36V | 6 × 6V |
| G14, G16, G19 (Electric) | 1996–2003 | 36V | 6 × 6V |
| G22 (Electric) | 2003–2006 | 48V | 4 × 12V |
| G29 / Drive (Electric) | 2007–2016 | 48V | 4 × 12V or 6 × 8V |
| Drive2 / Drive2 QuieTech | 2017+ | 48V | 6 × 8V |
| Umax One | 2018+ | 48V | 4 × 12V |
| Umax Two | 2018+ | 48V | 4 × 12V |
Important: Yamaha G29/Drive carts can have either four 12V batteries or six 8V batteries depending on the production year and trim — both equal 48V but require different replacement batteries. Always read individual battery labels.
The 4 × 12V vs 6 × 8V Distinction
Some Yamaha 48V carts use four 12V batteries instead of six 8V batteries. From a performance standpoint, both are 48V systems. However:
- Four 12V batteries: Lighter per battery; easier to handle alone
- Six 8V batteries: More total capacity (Ah) in most configurations; better range
When replacing, confirm the battery count and individual voltage before ordering replacements.
Gas Yamaha Models
The Yamaha Drive and Drive2 are also available in gas versions — these have a 12V starting battery only, not a traction pack.
Upgrade Path
The Yamaha G29/Drive is one of the most popular platforms for lithium upgrades due to its reliable drivetrain and clean battery tray. See our lithium battery upgrade service or call 1-844-844-6638 for a free compatibility check.
