Under 47 O.S. § 11-1116, golf carts may operate on public roads only where a city has adopted a golf cart ordinance (with lighting and safety requirements), where a county board has approved unincorporated roadways posted 25 mph or less with signage, for perpendicular state-highway crossings inside such a city, or for state-park carts. Oklahoma recognizes low-speed electric vehicles (top speed 20–25 mph) that may operate on roads posted 35 mph or less and cross faster ones, and medium-speed electric vehicles (top speed 30–35 mph) that, once registered, may use roads posted up to 45 mph but not interstates (47 O.S. §§ 11-805.1, 1102.2, 1151.4).
