Registering Your Street Legal Golf Cart

Registering Your Street Legal Golf Cart

If your recently purchased a street legal golf cart or LSV, you will need to have it registered in order to drive it on the road.

Here are the steps you will need to take to get your license plate:

  • Ensure that you have a physical bill of sale from your dealer. This should have the make, model, color, and year of the cart, as well as the 17 digit VIN number. NOTE: If your cart does not have a 17 digit VIN (usually stamped, rivited, or stickered to the cart) then it is NOT street legal.

  • Your dealer should also provide you with a Certificate of Origin Title (MCO or MSO) This should be notorized by a legal notary and should have a the vehicle make, model, year, and VIN number on the front.

  • You will need to have your golf cart insured. Just like a car, in order to legally drive it on the road, insurance is a requirment.

If you have verified that you have your bill of sale, title, and proof of insurance, you can take those documents to a tag agency or the DMV, depending on the state.

Your golf cart can now be registered. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to call our office at 215-595-8736.
